A-Infos Radio Project: The 4ZZZ Anarchy Show: Members of Brisbane Sovereign Embassy on 4ZZZ, Segment 1

The Brisbane Sovereign Embassy was sent up in Musgrave Park on March 13 as part of a national campaign for recognition of Aboriginal Sovereignty in Australia. The site in Musgrave Park was especially chosen for cultural reasons as the Aboriginal community has a long history and connection with the area. The Embassy operated successfully in the park for two months before encountering opposition from the Brisbane City Council who said the Embassy needed to move because of upcoming events which were to be held in the park. On Wednesday over 200 police surrounded Musgrave Park, closing all adjacent streets and forcibly removed the Brisbane Sovereign Embassy. The Anarchy Show’s Linda Rose has been closely involved with the Embassy and was a first hand witness to many of the behind the scenes events which have taken place over the last week or so. On Friday she was joined in the 4ZZZ studio by local Aboriginal community and Embassy members DK and Russell Tighe about the Embassy, the events on Wednesday and Aboriginal struggles in Australia.

A-Infos Radio Project: New World Notes: #220 -- Eugene Jarecki: The Drug War, Segment 1

10 hours 53 min ago
Eugene Jarecki's new documentary on the drug war, "The House I Live In," just won a top award at Sundance. Here Jarecki talks about some things he learned while making the film. Among them: 90% of crack arrestees--but only 13% of crack users--are Black. Drug laws, always a means of race control, are now also a means of class control, with poor whites increasingly targeted. And the original "War on Drugs"--launched by Nixon in 1971--devoted 2/3 of its budget to treatment programs.
